Sarah M Wong
My name is Sarah Wong, and I am passionate about hearing the life story of others and telling stories. I've been writing off and on ever since I was little. I would waddle around with pencils and notebooks everywhere I went. I don't think there was a time when I didn't have writing utensils with me.
Throughout my years I have had opportunities to meet with and learn many techniques from other talented writers. I would take these techniques and help others explore the world of writing and their writing journeys.
I have certificates in fictional writing, English grammar and publishing that I maintain and update every five years. I am actively involved with many writing groups and book clubs, I've also created my own writing group to help others learn and understand English grammar and build vocabulary words. I also motivate and engage and provide support in any way possible.
Writing is not an easy thing to do, it's difficult, and time consuming, but I believe it's how we are able to communicate with each other and with ourselves. Writing helps us learn who we are, overcome various obstacles in our day-to-day lives and help us become who we want to be, or don't want to be.
Being as active as I can, my goal is to help others learn how to write so they may tell their stories for future generations to learn and grow. My end goal is to help others pass on their wisdom, their legacy, and their story.
Hazelwood Books
Writing is a fundamental skill that we all should learn. Throughout history, writing has been a key factor. War, peace, negotiation, betrayal and entertainment. Writing has shaped the lives of humanity.
When we write, we're putting our heart and soul into the words that we put down; we're telling the world who we are, how we lived our lives. Whether we write handwritten letters, short or long convoluted messages, or even journaling.
Writing creates a pathway to multiple doors, unlocking things about us, we never knew existed, opening new ideas and innovations.
Through writing, we discover who we are as individuals. Who we would want (or don’t want) to become. We can slowly mold ourselves into something beautiful with the power of words.
That is why I created Hazelwood Books. I wanted a place people can go to explore the world of writing without feeling inadequate. To have the tools and resources they need to succeed!
Changing lives with one story at a time!
Why I started on this journey
My Entire Life
I started on this journey to be a publisher shortly after my sister had passed away. She has been my biggest supporter when it came to writing.
Growing up, she and I were very close; we shared a bond of books and stories. Though, there was no greater story than the story of her life.
My sister, Kimberley, was born disabled; she had many medical problems that affected her daily life.
She was born with spina bifida. It was challenging, but at that time she was learning how to crawl around and slowly developed mobility.
But then she had a stroke that left her in a coma. This had caused other medical problems. She became partially brain dead and was paralyzed from the waist down. Her cognitive development couldn’t surpass that of a five-year-old child.
Her challenges, her struggles of everyday life didn’t stop her from being who she was. She was a cheerful person who saw the world differently from others. She had a childlike imagination that captured the hearts and minds of everyone she interacted with.
My sister would tell unimaginable stories with such vivid and active personifications; it was hard not to be intrigued. Her active imagination went beyond what most could devise.
The couch would get into a fight with the chair and rumble around and bump into the door and fly through the window.
Kimberley would get so happy telling these stories. She would laugh so hard each time.
Her laughter was infectious to those around her, and they would join in her laughter, soon she would have the whole room laughing so hard they were in tears.
Because of her brain development, Kimberley couldn’t communicate the way most people could. Her stories were her only communication with others. This was her history she was making.
After she passed away, I made it my mission to help others write their stories and make their own impact on the world. Just as my sister has done with me and many others.
Life was never easy for any of us, but we made it work. Because of all the obstacles we went through my family became stronger.
When my sister passed away, it was hard on all of us. Though she may be gone, she will never be forgotten.
A quote from one of my favorite songs
"In the end
As you fade into the night
Who will tell the story of your life
And who will remember your last goodbye"
- Black Veil Bride "In The End"
Just because one moves on, it doesn't mean their memory will be forgotten. My hope is to tell their last goodbye and keep their legacy alive!
My Story
My thread of life has been created from love, tragic, pain, and resilience, woven together into a beautiful tapestry of a chaotic mess.
Growth
Challenges Faced
Each challenge I hurdled, has taught me many things in life that most don't get to experience. Though they have been difficult to come through, I don't regret them. Those experience; the path I endured has led me to become the person I am today.
